DP Guide: Chapter 5, Exporting Data Out of SDC

Exporting Data Out of SDC

Researchers should be able to export the data of the system, based on the compliance and data
usage policies set forth by a Data Provider. Once an export request has been submitted, the
request will be sent to the appropriate Data Providers. Data providers are responsible for accepting
or rejecting the export requests for Researchers so that they are able to get their data products
out of the SDC system.

Approving Export Requests

Data providers can see the requests in the EXPORT REQUESTS tab of the SDC web portal, as seen in the Figures below;

There are three sections for the requests made by the Researchers:

  1. Export File Requests: These requests correspond to the approval form submitted by the
Researcher for exporting any data file out of the SDC system.
The Data Provider can accept the request by clicking on the right mark and reject the
request by clicking on the wrong mark as shown above. To get all the details regarding the request, the provider can click on the file symbol under the details column for each request. To review the file for which the request has been made, the Data Provider can click on the ‘cloud download’ icon to download the file and review it before giving the access to the analyst.

  2. Export Table Requests: These table entries correspond to Researcher requests for permission to export a given table of data to the Edge Database. These entries may also include requests seeking approval for a schema change to previously approved table.
To review details provided by the Researcher/requestor, click on the file symbol, found under the Details column for each request.
The request can be accepted or denied by clicking, within the Approval column, on either the check-mark or the 'X'-mark, respectively.

  3. Trusted Requests: These requests correspond to the request for ‘Trusted User Status’.
The data provider can accept the request by clicking on the check-mark or reject the
request by clicking on the 'X'-mark.

Actions of Review

  1. Notify: The file export request of a Researcher, who has been granted ‘Trusted User Status’ for the corresponding dataset, is accepted automatically. In this case, the Data Provider is sent an email notification of the request which also confirms that the request has been accepted.

  2. Notify Review: Generally, an email notification is sent to the Data Provider to indicate their approval is required for each Researcher’s request submitted through the SDC web portal. The Data Provider can review, and accept or reject the request from the “EXPORT REQUESTS” section of the SDC web portal.
Note: For ‘Table' export requests, the email notification will additionally provide sample rows from, and the schema describing, the table which has been requested for export.
