DB Guide: Getting Started

Databricks is a unified, cloud-based platform for processing, storing, analyzing, and sharing large datasets. Follow the steps below to get your project set up.

Step 1 — Before You Begin

Before reaching out to the DOT Databricks Support Team, take some time to align internally on your project's scope and requirements. Come to us with a clear picture of what you're trying to accomplish.

Not sure yet? That's okay — if you're still exploring or want to learn the platform, we can set up a Sandbox project for you. No formal requirements needed; just let us know.

Step 2

The project's Federal Lead should contact the DOT Databricks Federal Lead, Shyla Morisetty, to discuss project requirements and cost implications.

Step 3

The Federal Lead should submit the Create a New Databricks Project form.

Step 4

Once the new project form is received and processed, then each team member must individually complete the Databricks User Onboarding form. Please note that all onboarding requests will be sent to your chosen FED POC for approval through Jira. Our team will start working on this requests only when the ticket in Jira is approved.

Step 5

Your project is ready to use. If you need to add a new foreign catalog (databases) or external volume (S3 bucket) to an existing project, submit the New Foreign Catalog (databases) or New External Volume (S3) forms.
