Accessing and Launching Workstations
Users are assigned cloud-based workstations to perform research and analysis. This section
provides a description of how to launch and use these workstations.
Launch Workstations
Users can see the assigned workstations under the My resources tab on the left. By default, all the workstations are in an stopped state.
Click on power icon to start a workstation. (turns red when clicked)
The workstation should become available within five minutes; you may not see any change immediately but soon as the connect button turns green, you can click it and it will pop open a new window.
Note: “Connect” button does not start your workstation. You must start it before you can log in.
The Guacamole landing page should be opened. Click the corresponding connection for your workstation.
The workstation may take a few minutes to initialize. When complete, a login screen will appear. Enter your SDC username and password at the prompt to access your workstation desktop.
SDC Username - Enter your SDC credentials (provided in your welcome email)
SDC Password - Enter your SDC credentials (provided in your welcome email)
Login.gov Email - Enter your http://Login.gov email id. (as you have registered)
Login.gov Password - Enter your http://Login.gov password. (as you have registered)
Login.gov One-time Authentication code - Download, install and setup with Login.gov an authentication app to your device and enter the one time authentication code and hit “ enter.”
Some popular options include:
Android options: Google Authenticator, Authy, LastPass, 1Password.
iOS options: Google Authenticator, Authy, LastPass, 1Password.
Windows apps: 1Password, OTP Manager.
Mac apps: 1Password, OTP Manager.
Chrome extensions: Authenticator.
Installed Software on the workstation
By default, users will have the following installed on their workstations and some software can be requested via opening a Service desk ticket at https://securedatacommons.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/3/create/25 or emailing the SDC team at sdc-support@dot.gov .

Manage Workstations
After launching their workstations, users can manage resizing CPU/RAM for a workstation by clicking on gear icon as shown below. A small window appears with two options: Resize Workstation and Add Storage (coming soon).
Resize Workstation
To resize the workstation, Click on Resize Workstation and the below window will pop open.
The Resize Workstation tab allows users to select desired CPU/RAM for their
workstation. Current configurations will be grayed out and unavailable.A recommended list of desired CPU and RAM will appear upon pressing the down arrow. Make your selection.
Select the “Start my workstation after resizing to the new configuration?” radio button to automatically start the workstation with the new configuration after saving changes.
Select “Submit Resize Request” after all details are entered.
Users will be returned to the Workstations tab with updated CPU and memory information. They will also receive a success email message from the system confirming the resize expiration date.
Stop Workstations
Users can stop the assigned workstations by clicking on the same red power icon.
Upon clicking the user will see below pop up window, Click on “Shutdown Workstation” to stop it.
Note: by default, all the workstations are scheduled to stop every day at 11 PM EST.
Connect power icon will be greyed out once the workstation is stopped.
